Job Title: Senior Living Management Company General Counsel

Senior Living Management Company is seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Counsel to join our team. As a key member of our leadership team, the General Counsel will play a pivotal role in shaping the company's legal strategy and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal counsel to the executive team on complex issues facing the company and the senior housing industry.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the company's corporate formalities, including serving as the Company's registered agent.
  • Manage a team of lawyers and paralegals, providing organization, direction, and performance evaluation.
  • Foster collaborative partnerships with various business and operational units within the company, providing expert legal guidance as needed.
  • Supervise and manage outside counsel relationships in litigation matters and other legal disputes.
  • Engage in the drafting, review, and negotiation of a diverse array of contracts.
  • Oversee the preparation of various licensure and certificate of need applications needed for new company locations.
  • Assist the operations team in the licensing, delicensing, acquisition, and sale of assisted living and independent living facilities.
  • Supervise, manage, and assist outside counsel in various transactions and financings for senior housing assets.
  • Oversee the response, appeal, and resolution of regulatory matters affecting company locations.
  • Assist in the review of and/or developing, updating, and maintaining of company policies and procedures, handbooks, customer-facing resources, contract addenda and templates.
  • Stay current with relevant industry regulations and laws impacting the senior housing sector and serve as a subject matter expert and legal resource for others.
Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in North Carolina.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience, including both law firm/professional practice in business law or corporate law.
  • Substantial litigation experience with a government agency, law firm, or company highly desired.
  • Experience in highly-regulated industries, corporate governance, and management of multiple regulated affiliates; preferred industries are healthcare, insurance, or financial services.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • High ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to navigate, complex legal and regulatory compliance issues.
  • Track record of establishing strong working relationships with internal/external business clients and within the legal department.
