Mechanical Engineering Leadership Position in Sustainable Design

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in San Francisco. This role will involve leading engineering teams through all stages of projects, playing a key role in marketing the studio, and managing the mechanical discipline.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the engineering leader on projects of any size and play a larger role in the marketing of the studio and management of the discipline.
- Lead a team performing analysis, design, and documentation of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and controls.
- Assist in establishing project goals, budgets, and schedules, track project performance, and follow/enforce quality control procedures.
- Meet with clients, project teams, code officials, contractors, and others to address mechanical discipline issues and develop effective working relationships.
- Present engineering design solutions to client representatives and/or design review committees.
- Serve as a mechanical systems specialist, conduct research in problem areas of considerable scope/complexity, and devise solutions.
- Contribute to and advocate for SmithGroup's sustainable design initiatives.
- Ensure document and project quality through SmithGroup's QA/QC standards.
- Mentor junior and intermediate-level staff and participate in performance coaching.
- Participate in the recruitment and interviewing process as requested.
Requirements:
- A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years of experience working as a mechanical engineer designing HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression, sustainable design, and automatic control systems, including experience performing energy modeling.
- Experience leading in sectors for Science and Technology, Higher Education, or Healthcare.
- LEED AP preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.
- The ability to lead and mentor others in the area of expertise.
- Working knowledge of the design and construction process and the ability to understand and communicate with professionals of other disciplines.
- Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit and Microsoft Office Suite software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in dealing with internal and external clients.
