Marine Electrical Engineer

THOR Solutions is seeking a highly motivated Marine Electrical Engineer to support the US Coast Guard's Ship Design Team in Washington, DC.
- Review electrical systems design drawings and interpret ship specifications.
- Write electrical system specifications for concept, preliminary, and contract-level designs and ship modifications.
- Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
- Perform design and calculations, including EPLA, Arc-Flash Analysis, and Electrical System Survivability Analysis.
- Conduct design, analysis, studies, and recapitalization of electrical circuits, power monitoring, and control systems.
- Evaluate the effect of new or modified electrical subsystems on overall system performance.
- Review and adjudicate system design specifications, test requirements, and Departures from Specification.
Location: Full-time onsite at USCG Headquarters in Washington, DC. May be limited local remote flexibility with customer approval.
Travel: Up to 10% travel is anticipated for ship checks.
Typical Pay Range: $80,000 - $110,000. Actual compensation offered will be based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, and experience.
US Citizenship Required: Due to the requirements of the federal contract, U.S. citizenship is required.
Typical Physical Activity: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve repetitive motion and periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments.
Security Clearance Eligibility Required: This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance.
Typical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in Marine or Electrical Engineering or another relevant technical, engineering, or marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
- At least three to five years of progressive experience in Marine Electrical fields.
- Experience related to U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs preferred.
- Knowledge of U.S. Navy Power Distribution Architectures.
- Familiarity with USN, USCG, ABS, and/or commercial ship design rules and regulations.
- Proficient with common productivity software.
- Strong communications skills.
