Job Overview

Equiliem is seeking a reliable and skilled Sterile Processing Specialist for a 13-week contract position in the Cincinnati area.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for decontaminating, cleaning, processing, and sterilizing trays, instruments, supplies, and equipment while adhering to infection control practices.
  • Dispense equipment upon request and maintain accurate records and departmental inventory usage.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Disassembling, cleaning, and disinfecting instruments and equipment used for patient care utilizing correct manual and mechanical processes.
  • Operating equipment used in the decontamination process, i.e. sonic washer, cart washers, washer sterilizers, and decontaminators.
  • Maintaining cleaning tasks in work areas as assigned.
  • Utilizing universal precautions when working in decontamination areas (i.e., gloves, face shields, protective gown).
  • Making rounds throughout the facility to retrieve reusable instruments and equipment and transporting them back to the Sterile Processing Department.
  • Unloading instruments from washer sterilizers and distributing them to appropriate workstations.
  • Assembling instrument trays and packs utilizing written instructions and proper protocol.
  • Checking for sharpness and proper functioning of instruments.
  • Recognizing and memorizing a large variety of instruments.
  • Applying sterilization wrappers properly to maintain the integrity of the contents.
  • Utilizing heat sealers on packs as needed.
  • Loading sterilizer carriages and transporting trays to sterilization areas.
  • Checking trays, packs, and basins on sterilizer carriages to ensure correct procedures have been utilized.
  • Able to operate each type of sterilizer, selecting the correct cycle and time period required for specified loads.
  • Knowledgeable of all methods of sterilization (i.e., Sterrad, Steam).
  • Accurately documenting all sterilization information, which can be completed manually or through the use of a computer.
  • Biological monitoring is completed per departmental policy.
  • Sterile instruments and supplies are handled properly and restocked in sterile storage areas, with all items rotated as required.
  • All equipment is continuously monitored to ensure it is functioning properly.
  • Surgical preference lists are obtained from computers to pull supplies for each case.
  • The location of instruments and supplies is labeled to increase efficiency.
  • Performing quality control final checks before items leave the department.
  • Restocking, storing, or returning procedural carts to their respective areas.
  • Fulfilling requests from the OR and Pre-op/PACU when requested.
  • Assisting with one-on-one training of other associates.
  • Responding to emergency codes when required.
  • Following instructions and departmental guidelines regarding sterility.
  • Attending departmental-in-services and mandatory meetings.
  • Knowledgeable of all areas in the Sterile Processing Department.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Two years of Central Service experience.

Estimated Salary: $40 - $60 per hour, based on the job requirements and location in the Cincinnati area.
