Heavy Equipment Technician

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Technician to join our team at Western States CAT. As a key member of our field service team, you will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment, ensuring our customers receive top-notch service and support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough machine performance and diagnostic tests to identify issues and develop effective repair plans.
- Utilize troubleshooting methods and systems to repair and diagnose machine and attachment failures, adhering to time requirement guidelines (TRG) standards.
- Adapt knowledge of Caterpillar machine systems to troubleshoot and repair new equipment models, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
- Perform work in the field, shop, or at customer locations, including overtime and overnight assignments, to meet customer needs and expectations.
- Repair machines without error and consistently repair machines within the time requirement guidelines, ensuring high-quality results and customer satisfaction.
- Efficiently repair warranty and service letter issues, prioritizing customer needs and deadlines.
- Utilize web-based STW, SIS, and ET systems effectively to address technical issues, ensuring accurate and timely resolution.
- Complete service reports, time entry, and all other paperwork and reporting on a laptop and submit them daily via email, maintaining accurate records and communication with customers.
- Communicate machine issues, problem resolution plans, and status of repairs to customers during repairs, ensuring transparency and customer satisfaction.
- Adhere to all customer care standards, promoting a positive and professional image for Western States CAT.
- Actively promote safety at Western States CAT, adhering to all applicable safety policies, procedures, and standards.
- May participate in training and serve as a team member in support of Western States CAT's strategic programs, projects, and initiatives.
- Work within and promote corporate vision, mission, and values of the organization, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
Requirements:
- Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors, employees, and the public.
- Ability to self-schedule and perform duties with minimal supervision required, demonstrating independence and self-motivation.
- Knowledge and use of Microsoft computer products or other comparable systems, ensuring proficiency in software and technology.
- Ability to work overtime with minimal notice required, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
- Ability to drive for long periods of time and travel away from home as required, ensuring reliability and dependability.
- Consistent attendance, with a strong commitment to meeting customer needs and expectations.
Education and Experience:
- Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED), with an Associate's Degree or technical training from an accredited vocational school preferred.
- Five years of experience in diagnosis and repair of heavy equipment, with knowledge of scrapers and crawler tractors, loaders, excavators, off-highway trucks, required.
- Caterpillar experience preferred, with prior experience in troubleshooting methods and systems required.
- Must own required tools, with a current CDL and air brake experience, and an acceptable driving record, meeting DOT requirements.
- Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English).
Physical Characteristics:
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, along with walking, sitting, climbing stairs, reaching, pushing, pulling, leaning, and twisting.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs in accordance with Western States CAT's Lifting Safe Work Practice, including amount and approach.
- Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
