Pain Management Technician Job Summary

As a Pain Management Technician at Advocate Health, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients undergoing various pain management procedures. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the smooth execution of these procedures, from preparation to post-procedure care.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform and/or assist in surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures, including epidural steroid injections, neuro stimulator electrode implants, and trigger point injections.
Monitor patient vital signs before, during, and after procedures, ensuring their safety and comfort.
Organize and prepare procedure rooms, ensuring proper sterilization of instruments and equipment.
Provide basic instructions and answer patient questions prior to procedures, referring complex queries to RNs or physicians.
Maintain working knowledge of procedural equipment and conduct routine maintenance as per manufacturer guidelines and department policies.
Process patient prescription requests, communicating patient needs to physicians.
Prepare equipment for sterile processing by cleaning and wrapping instruments.
Order, receive, and stock pain management department supplies, maintaining adequate inventory.
Assist clerical staff with office procedures, including scheduling appointments, greeting patients, and entering patient charges.
Perform patient positioning and transporting duties, utilizing proper techniques and lifting up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, 20 lbs over the head, and carrying up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.

Requirements:

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months.
High School Graduate.
Typically requires 2 years of experience in patient care, including administering injections, IV insertions, and knowledge of prescription medications and dosage instructions.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, 20 lbs over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.

Working Conditions:

Exposed to normal office/clinic environment.
Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
