About the Role

Dallas County seeks a skilled Language Interpreter to facilitate effective communication between attorneys and Spanish-speaking defendants. This critical role requires a high level of proficiency in both English and Spanish, with the ability to translate complex legal terminology and proceedings with accuracy and precision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate communication between attorney and client from English to Spanish and Spanish to English
  • Transcribe proceedings verbatim from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English during agreed pleas, competency hearings, and contested matters
  • Translate legal documents from English to Spanish for the benefit of Spanish-speaking clients
  • Coordinate telephone calls to defendant's family members and witnesses
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in English, Spanish, Liberal Arts, or a related field
  • One (1) year experience in legal interpretation
  • Fluency in English and Spanish with the ability to read, write, speak, and translate Spanish and English
  • Familiarity with criminal law and legal terms

Work Environment

This is a normal office environment role, requiring the ability to work in a fast-paced setting with multiple priorities and deadlines.
