Job Summary

This is an entry-level position that will progress to a Utility Technician position after completion of orientation and training.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate various types of machinery in the coke making process, including duties such as shoveling coke, sweeping, and cleaning tar off equipment.
  • Seal any environmental leakage from the coke ovens and use various air tools to clean carbon from inside of pipes.
  • Participate in safety activities to meet or exceed organizational goals and expectations.
  • Maintain interpersonal relationships with individuals both external and internal to the organization.
  • Be an active participant in developing and maintaining a culture of professionalism.
  • Responsible for following all rules, policies, or expectations.
  • Responsible for environmental compliance.
Requirements
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required, with industrial or manufacturing experience in an operating discipline preferred.
  • Strong safety experience.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented atmosphere.
  • Demonstrated capability to achieve results through people, technology, and processing equipment.
  • Good knowledge of the assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Ability to function within a matrix organization where employees report to both a functional leader and a business leader.
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with both a functional and business leader.
  • Must be goal-oriented.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, coworkers, and management.
Working Conditions

Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, and extreme heat and cold.

Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or machinery and equipment with high temperatures.

Occasionally exposed to vibration and fumes or airborne particles which will require the use of personal protective equipment including: respirators; fire retardant clothing; self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), etc.

Exposed to protected and unprotected heights, which requires the use of a personal fall protection system (harness/lifeline).

The noise level in the work environment may occasionally go above the threshold, requiring PPE.
