First Lego League Coach and Mentor

Job Description:

Snapology of Seaford NY is seeking a highly motivated and experienced First Lego League Coach and Mentor to join our team. As a Coach and Mentor, you will be responsible for teaching, guiding, and coaching our various First Lego League teams, preparing them for their competitions. You will promote creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while educating students on STEAM concepts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead groups of up to 10 students through FLL curriculum-guided activities
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment, including Spike Prime and Spike Essential
  • Instruct and demonstrate programming through Lego Spike Prime/Essential software
  • Instruct and demonstrate designing and constructing a Lego Robot using Spike Prime/Essential
  • Instruct and Guide students through the innovation project
  • Reports to manager but is able to manage a team through FIRST Dashboard
  • Adequately prepare for each program by reading the curriculum, watching training videos, and/or participating in face-to-face training sessions
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of Snapology
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust teaching strategies
  • Participate in periodic Snapology training staff meetings, as required
Qualifications:
  • Must have experience with designing and building Lego Robots using Spike Prime/Essential/Mindstorms EV3
  • Must have experience with programming using Lego Spike Software (Scratch, Unity, Python, C++, Java a plus but not required)
  • Coaching experience with a robotics team (FLL, FTC, FRC, WRO) a plus
  • Criminal and Child Clearances must be current
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
Additional Notes:

Availability for practice outside of regular class hours, including scheduled weekend scrimmages and tournaments. The regular season for FLL begins in late August with the release of the annual challenge and continues through the qualifier tournament season in December. Teams that advance to the state competition will continue to meet through mid-January. Teams practice at least 2 hrs, once per week, during the regular season.

Compensation:

$25.00 per hour
