Job OverviewSt. John's Episcopal Hospital is seeking a dedicated Peer Specialist to join our team. As a Peer Specialist, you will work closely with patients to provide support and guidance in their mental health journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide orientation and companionship to patients in behavioral health units.
- Act as a liaison and support to patients being admitted to inpatient and outpatient units.
- Use personal experience to serve as a role model and encourage mental health wellness and recovery.
- Provide supportive peer counseling on mental health, substance abuse, and rehabilitation strategies.
- Lead or co-lead groups on substance abuse, mental health wellness, and recovery.
- Assist patients in identifying warning signs of relapse and developing coping strategies.
- Act as a liaison with community and governmental agencies.
- Contribute to departmental QA and PI initiatives.
Requirements:
- A High school diploma or its educational equivalent.
- Satisfactory completion of a formalized Peer Counselor/Specialist Training Program or one year of full-time experience working with consumers of mental health services.
- Demonstrates a capacity to work collaboratively in a team setting.
