About the Role:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Family Centers Inc. will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial future of our mission-driven organization. As the CFO, you will oversee the financial health and sustainability of the agency, enabling us to expand our reach and deepen our impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately account for the agency's operations, assets, liabilities, and investments
  • Provide timely monthly financial reporting to the Board and internal constituents
  • Compile annual budgets and periodic forecasts for the agency's service delivery areas
  • Prepare budgets and interim reports for private funders
  • Maximize revenues, with emphasis on health care and early childhood education service fee billing
  • Ensure timely tax returns and compliance with local, state, federal, and private funder regulations
  • Maintain accounting policies and procedures, updating as necessary for changed regulations
  • Oversee the agency's commercial insurance renewal and claims
  • Coordinate annual audits of financial statements, 403(b) plan, and workers' compensation
  • Enhance financial literacy within the organization
  • Promote improved fiscal health and sound procedures to safeguard cash and financial assets

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years' experience overseeing a finance function in a similarly sized organization
  • Familiarity with state and federal grant requirements
  • Excellent analytical and accounting skills
  • Proven ability to multi-task, delegate, and project manage
  • Track record of developing employees and motivating staff for superior performance
  • Experience in change management, business process redesign, and systems implementation
  • Experience working with governing Boards and subcommittees
  • Versatility to see the big picture while managing details
  • Ability to provide guidance on accounting and GAAP issues
  • Exceptional listening and communication skills

About Family Centers:

Family Centers is a private, nonprofit organization offering health, education, and human service programs to children, adults, and families in Fairfield County. Our team includes 300 professionals and over 500 trained volunteers collaborating to provide our communities with responsive and innovative services.

We are a United Way, Community Fund of Darien, and New Canaan Community Foundation partner agency, and a member of the Connecticut Council of Family Service Agencies and the Alliance for Children and Families. The agency is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), The Joint Commission, licensed by the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health, and is a Department of Children and Families-licensed child psychology center.

Total revenue for the latest fiscal year was $21.3M.
