Summary:The incumbent in this position is a senior clinician responsible for planning and implementing specific treatment programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of Speech Language Pathology. This role requires collaboration with an interdisciplinary treatment team and adherence to all applicable laws and regulations.
In this role, the Speech Language Pathologist Specialist will promote best practice through active collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, knowledge of evidence-based practices, and mentoring.
Responsibilities:- Provide direct Speech Language Pathology services to patients in accordance with standards of practice.
- Independently select reliable and valid assessment tools relevant to diagnosis, functional limitation, and patient history.
- Demonstrate progression of treatment plan and implementation of appropriate therapeutic interventions.
- Report on patient progress through appropriate written documentation.
- Collaborate with physicians, patients, family, and other members of the healthcare team relative to patient treatment and progress.
- Use unscheduled time to flex to other work areas for patient treatment.
- Serve as a preceptor and act as a mentor for new staff therapists, students, and rehabilitation aides.
- Train in specialized assessment tools, advanced treatment techniques, and/or specialized treatments.
- Plan, implement, and coordinate educational programs within assigned area.
- Assist in developing, interpreting, and reviewing policies and procedures of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department.
- Demonstrate active participation in the department's quality assessment and improvement strategies.
- At least 3 years of previous Speech Language Pathology experience required.
- Two years of acute care experience and one year of pediatric experience preferred OR two years of pediatric experience and one year of acute care experience preferred.
- Acute care experience within a hospital setting preferred.
- Experience within Hematology-Oncology and/or Pulmonology preferred.
- License to practice Speech Language in the state of Texas required.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from ASHA required.
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course through the American Heart Association required.
