Job Description

As a Senior Plant Health Specialist with the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, you will play a critical role in safeguarding American agriculture from pests and diseases that can harm plants and animals.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in plant health diagnostics, research, and implementation of effective control measures. You will work closely with stakeholders, including farmers, producers, and industry representatives, to develop and implement strategies for preventing the spread of plant pathogens and pests.

Your expertise will be essential in leading scientific investigations, developing innovative diagnostic methods, and providing technical assistance to laboratories and field staff. Additionally, you will collaborate with international partners to share best practices and stay up-to-date on emerging threats.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead scientific investigations and develop innovative diagnostic methods for plant health issues
  • Provide technical assistance to laboratories and field staff on plant health diagnostics and control measures
  • Collaborate with international partners to share best practices and stay up-to-date on emerging threats
  • Develop and implement effective control measures to prevent the spread of plant pathogens and pests

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, or related disciplines
  • At least 5 years of experience in plant health diagnostics, research, or implementation of control measures
  • Strong knowledge of plant pathology, entomology, and nematology
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
