Medical Assistant - Occupational Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at Experis in Stanford, CA. As a Medical Assistant - Occupational Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our healthcare professionals.

About the Role:

This is a full-time position with a competitive salary of approximately $45,000 per year, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Room patients and obtain vital signs
  • Obtain surveillance questionnaires and consent forms
  • Assist the provider with patient examinations, accurately interpreting instructions and communicating clinical information to patients related to provider's orders
  • Use an electronic medical record system for appointment scheduling, check-in, and scheduling follow-up appointments
  • Draw blood; perform patient injections (vaccinations) as directed by the provider; administer clinical screening tests, e.g., hearing tests, visual test screening, pulmonary function tests, urine collection
  • Schedule and follow up on patient appointments; accurately provide information within defined limits and answer basic questions
  • Prepare blood for laboratory tests; ensure samples are ready for delivery with all appropriate documentation
  • Update and chart electronic patients and office databases
  • Respond to first-level inquiries from patients, HR, university departments, and outside organizations
  • Follow up with vendors, pharmacists, labs, and referral doctors; purchase office and clinic supplies as directed; check and perform quality control prior to any use of equipment
  • Provide backup to front desk reception staff in answering telephones, retrieving voicemail messages, and checking the clinic's email box for follow-up
Requirements:
  • Bilingual English Spanish at a conversational level, plus basic medical information, including patient's chief complaints, history of present illness, past medical history, including allergies, medications, chronic medical conditions, and post-visit instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety, shown through communication of safety concerns and the use and promotion of safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned
  • Demonstrated understanding of universal precautions used during exposure to blood, bodily fluid, or tissues
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information (written and verbal) with tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing; bilingual preferred
  • Ability to apply HIPAA training in all work interactions (verbal and written)
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Ability to distinguish basic colors, e.g., red, blue, green, yellow, and buff
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures to prioritize tasks, as well as troubleshoot unplanned situations and complete duties with limited supervision
Work Conditions:

Tasks involve exposure to blood, body fluid, or tissues, creating a potential risk of exposure to contagious diseases, infections, and accidental needle sticks. Employees will practice universal precautions. May be required to enter areas where other individuals work with human blood; potential may exist for unanticipated exposure to blood-borne pathogens by splash or spill.
