Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Postdoctoral Scholar to join our research team at Oregon Health & Science University. The successful candidate will have a strong background in biology, neuroscience, reproductive immunology, microbiology, or a related field, and will be responsible for conducting independent and collaborative research studies in nonhuman primates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct in vivo and in vitro research studies in nonhuman primates, including experimental design, data collection, and analysis.
  • Develop and implement new research technologies and techniques, and assist in the development of research protocols.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data, including performing statistical evaluations, and present findings to the research team.
  • Prepare data for publication, presentation, and/or progress reports, including written abstracts, journal manuscripts, and annual progress reports.
  • Assist with routine laboratory maintenance and ordering, and provide guidance and oversight to students and trainees.
Requirements
  • PhD in biology, neuroscience, reproductive immunology, microbiology, or a related field.
  • Strong background in mammalian physiology, reproductive biology, and/or perinatal and placental physiology.
  • Experience with microbiological culture techniques, flow cytometry, spatial transcriptomics, brain histology and imaging, large animal models or primates, laboratory animal surgery.
  • Excellent manual and intellectual skills to accurately perform research techniques, including cell or tissue culture, molecular biology, and immunocytochemistry/immunofluorescence.
  • Working knowledge of computer software for word processing, data storage and analyses, graphics and presentations.
  • Excellent organizational and communication (written and oral) skills, and strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diverse group of investigators, students, research support staff, and animal care personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with mammalian models to investigate biological and reproductive processes.
  • Experience presenting work at national/international meetings, submitting manuscripts for publication.
Working Conditions

The normal work schedule is routinely Monday through Friday from approximately 8:30am to 5:00pm; however, early morning, evening, and occasional weekend and overnight work is required by the scope of the position.

Work is performed in both the laboratory setting with potential risk of exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals and dry ice, and in areas where there is potential risk of exposure to zoonotic agents through injury, by direct contact with animals or their tissues and body fluids, or by contact with equipment contaminated by animals or their tissues and body fluids.

Physical Demands & Equipment Usage

The ability to lift or move equipment and devices up to 50 lbs, stand for up to 4 continuous hours per day, sit and use instruments on a laboratory bench for up to 4 continuous hours per day, sit and use a computer for 1-2 hours at a time, and use a computer keyboard.

The ability to physically perform tasks involving handling, moving, or restraint of animals, collection of samples, administration of treatments, and other procedures, which may involve moving on wet and/or slick surfaces, through narrow corridors, between rows of cages.
