Aerospace Fire Protection Engineer with Subsystem Development Expertise

At Northrop Grumman, we are seeking a highly skilled Aerospace Fire Protection Engineer to join our team of experts in the development and integration of fire protection subsystems for aircraft. This role requires a strong background in mechanical or aerospace engineering, with a focus on thermodynamic, fluid mechanic, and heat transfer disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performing responsible engineer activities, including design and development of fire protection system/component architectures, trade studies, layouts, and system test & verification.
  • Participating on subcontractor management teams and serving as the technical point of contact with suppliers for hardware development, qualification, and procurement.
  • Conducting system-related analysis, such as performance simulation, in support of the development of the fire protection subsystem, including integration with other aircraft subsystems.
  • Developing and executing system-level test plans, providing execution support, verification, data processing, and troubleshooting.
  • Evaluating systems to verify requirements and ensure airworthiness criteria are met.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) AND 2 years of engineering experience, OR Master's degree in STEM AND 3 years of engineering experience.
  • Ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain a Secret clearance within a reasonable period.
  • Professional experience related to the development and integration of fire protection subsystems or components.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering with a focus on thermodynamic, fluid mechanic, and/or heat transfer disciplines.
  • Experience with aircraft subsystem development, including requirements definition, specification development, component analysis, procurement, source selection, integration, and test & verification.
  • Experience performing thermodynamic, fluid mechanic, and/or heat transfer analysis related to military/commercial aircraft and subsystems.
  • Experience modeling fluid systems using software such as Amesim, MATLAB/Simulink, Thermal Desktop, Flomaster, and/or STAR-CCM+.
  • Experience with the military airworthiness certification process using MIL-HDBK-516.
  • Experience interpreting component detail drawings, specifications, installation drawings, and test procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership roles, including supplier and customer relations.
Salary Range

$77,200 - $115,800
