At Southgate Surgery Center, we are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in providing excellent patient care and assisting our ophthalmologists in delivering high-quality eye care services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in monitoring vital signs and transporting patients in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Maintain aseptic technique at all times, observing for any break in technique and taking corrective action as needed.
  • Care properly for contaminated items and ensure a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Assist in stocking OR supplies and maintaining adequate inventory of surgical supplies.
  • Check equipment, such as sterilizers and refrigerators, each surgical day and document on a monthly log sheet.
  • Assist each area as requested and act under the direct supervision of the nurse.
  • Perform fingerstick blood sugar and document results in the medical record.
  • Assist physician during laser procedures and report pertinent observations and reactions to the nurses and/or physician.
  • Identify patient and family teaching needs and initiate intervention to meet those needs.
  • Maintain and promote a positive, safe environment for patients and co-workers.
  • Assist with or initiate emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patient condition.
  • Monitor levels of inventory in accordance with desired quantities and participate in economical utilization of supplies and medication.
  • Attend departmental meetings and in-service education, showing responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education.
  • Participate in departmental fire and disaster drills and maintain patient confidentiality.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) is preferred.
