Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-Procedure Preparation
    • Review Patient History and Documentation: Ensure accurate and complete patient information prior to each procedure.
    • Patient Communication: Clearly explain the MRI procedure to patients, addressing any questions or concerns to minimize anxiety.
    • Safety Protocols: Verify patient identity and screening criteria to ensure safety during the procedure.
    • Equipment Preparation: Prepare and position the MRI room to ensure optimal scanning conditions.
  • Conducting MRI Scans
    • Scanning Expertise: Operate the MRI machine with precision, adjusting settings as needed to obtain high-quality images.
    • Patient Positioning: Ensure patients are comfortable and aligned properly to capture accurate images.
    • Contrast Agent Administration: Administer contrast agents as prescribed by physicians, monitoring patients for adverse reactions.
    • Scan Quality Control: Monitor the MRI process, making adjustments as necessary to ensure clear, high-resolution images.
  • Patient Safety and Comfort
    • Magnetic Field Safety: Verify that no ferrous or metal objects are present on patients to prevent accidents.
    • Patient Reassurance: Keep patients informed and comforted throughout the scan.
    • Vital Sign Monitoring: Monitor patients' vital signs during the scan to detect potential issues.
    • Proper Positioning: Ensure proper patient positioning to avoid injuries or discomfort.
  • Post-Procedure Care
    • Post-Scan Assistance: Assist patients off the MRI table after the procedure and ensure they are stable.
    • Post-Procedure Instructions: Provide patients with instructions for follow-up treatments, care for injection sites, and other aftercare instructions.
    • Scheduling Follow-Up Scans: Schedule additional scans as necessary.
    • Critical Care Response: Address any immediate concerns or side effects experienced by patients.
  • Maintenance and Equipment Care
    • Regular Maintenance: Ensure the MRI machine is calibrated and functioning correctly.
    • Cleaning and Disinfection: Clean and disinfect the MRI suite and equipment between patients to maintain infection control standards.
    • Equipment Performance Monitoring: Identify malfunctions or issues and alert the appropriate staff for repairs or servicing.
  • Collaboration with Medical Team
    • Effective Communication: Collaborate with physicians, radiologists, and other medical staff to ensure accurate image transmission and patient needs are met.
    • Image Review and Analysis: Work with healthcare professionals to review images, assess the need for follow-up scans, and discuss patient conditions.
    • Diagnostic Image Transmission: Ensure final images meet diagnostic standards and are transmitted accurately to physicians for review.
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping
    • Patient Information Documentation: Document all relevant patient information and scan results in the electronic health record.
    • Imaging Data Management: Ensure imaging data is properly labeled and uploaded into the system.
    • Equipment Logs: Maintain logs of equipment usage, maintenance, and any issues encountered during procedures.
  • Radiation Safety and Protocols
    • MRI Radiation Safety: Adhere to guidelines for handling contrast agents and other equipment that could pose a risk to patients.
    • Multimodal Imaging Safety: Follow established safety protocols when operating in proximity to X-ray or CT equipment.
    • Magnetic Field Safety: Follow guidelines to prevent accidents or injuries related to strong magnetic fields.
  • Professional Development and Training
    • Continuing Education: Stay current with the latest MRI technology, scanning techniques, and patient care practices.
    • Certification and Licensure: Participate in continuing education programs and obtain necessary certifications to maintain licensure and improve professional skills.
    • Training New Staff: Assist in training new MRI technologists or students on the operation of MRI machines and best practices in patient care.
