We are seeking an experienced Special Education Assistant II for our team at Alexandria City Public Schools.

Job Overview
The Special Education Assistant II will work closely with certified special education teachers to provide instructional support to students with disabilities in the general education or special education classroom.
This is a unique opportunity to join a dedicated team of professionals who are committed to providing high-quality education and support services to students with diverse learning needs.

Responsibilities
- Assist in the supervision and instruction of special needs students, adapting classroom activities and materials as needed
- Observe and document student progress, implementing plans for instruction and behavior under the direction of a certified teacher
- Provide clerical support to the teacher, including maintaining instructional materials and student files/records
- Monitor students during lunch, playground, and other activities to ensure a safe and positive learning environment
- Attend meetings and in-service presentations to stay up-to-date on job functions and best practices

Requirements
- 48 college credits or an AA degree, or equivalent experience
- CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
- Experience working with students with special needs preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with teachers, staff, and students

Salary and Benefits
We offer a competitive salary range of $43,000 - $63,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.

Training and Development
New hires will be provided with online training modules to meet the Virginia Board of Education's requirements for instructional assistants working with students with autism spectrum disorders.
This training will help ensure that our team members are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to support students with complex needs.

Clearances and Compliance
All applicants must undergo a background check and obtain clearance from the Department of Social Services prior to hire.
Additionally, employees must follow safety and health protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
