UNC Health is seeking a skilled Clinical Nurse II to join our team in the PACU department. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient care, working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.
Responsibilities:
1. Education and Development: Participate in identifying and meeting your own learning needs, attending education programs as needed. Utilize patient education materials relevant to the patient population, assessing the readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
2. Evaluation of Care: Identify expected patient outcomes, seeking guidance as needed in revising the plan of care. Participate in discussions with the interdisciplinary team in evaluating patient care, communicating relevant information to promote continuity of care.
3. Implementation: Demonstrate competence in caring for patients with complex problems, including population-appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care. Perform bedside point-of-care testing as required for the patient care plan, utilizing healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in delivering care. Organize and prioritize care according to patient and family needs, consulting with appropriate resources in a timely fashion regarding patients with complex care issues, unusual teaching needs, and/or those at high risk for discharge planning.
4. Leadership: Develop goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations, achieving goals and objectives within the identified time frame or renegotiating with the supervisor. Be knowledgeable about activities that facilitate intra/interdepartmental collaboration, participating in development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities. Effectively use communication systems, participating in promoting cost-effective care, giving feedback to coworkers, and being aware of public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting the healthcare environment.
5. Patient Assessment: Recognize data from complex situations to determine priorities for care, including appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs. Synthesize assessment data into meaningful wholes prior to communication to others, assessing and anticipating discharge needs of individual patients and families, developing relationships with families that promote their ability to advocate for the patient and their own needs.
6. Planning: Collaborate with patients and families to prepare or update the plan of care, making use of available multidisciplinary resources in planning care. Begin to use full range of communication as a means to convey planning, identifying and addressing cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care, demonstrating ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
7. Research: Read journals containing studies or articles that may be applicable to practice, bringing ideas and questions to the staff at large for assessment of applicability.
Requirements:
Graduation from a school of professional nursing
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification
One (1) year of nursing experience
