The Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a highly skilled postdoctoral researcher to contribute to the development of distributed quantum computing. This project focuses on creating superconducting qubit-based quantum processors connected via a campus-scale fiber-optic network.

Project Overview

The successful candidate will work closely with team members and collaborators to design, fabricate, and characterize superconducting transmon qubits and microwave-optical quantum transducers using CNM's state-of-the-art facilities.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a highly collaborative team, interact with scientists from Argonne and UChicago, and external collaborators. A strong background in experimental physics and/or engineering is essential, with experience in superconducting qubits, nanofabrication, photonics, and low-temperature experiments being highly preferred.

Job Requirements
  • PhD in physics or a related field received within the last 5 years or upcoming year
  • Able to model Argonne's core values: impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork
  • Strong background in experimental physics and/or engineering
  • Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Considerable skills in collaboration
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in device nanofabrication
  • Experience in microwave and optical device characterization and measurement
  • Knowledge of quantum information science
  • Experience with superconducting qubit design, fabrication, and measurement
  • Experience with microwave-optical transducers
  • Experience with dilution refrigerator operation and cryogenic experiments
Estimated Salary Range

$90,000 - $120,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience
