The Office of Accounting Services for Research and Sponsored Programs (ASRSP) at Northwestern University is seeking a highly skilled Accounting Coordinator to support the financial management of sponsored projects. The successful candidate will work closely with the Assistant Director of Cash to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, invoicing, and cash management.
Key Responsibilities- Support grant and contract cash management function in ASRSP, coordinating with central offices and external payees and payors.
- Review and process a portfolio of receivable activity for sponsored awards, determining when complex issues need to be escalated.
- Provide transactional oversight and apply industry and professional standards, university policy and procedure, federal and state laws, and other regulations.
- Represent and guide business areas on internal and external financial affairs, exchanging information and providing financial policy interpretation.
- Assist with monthly/quarterly/annual journal entries, reports, and statements, and provide support for annual audit work papers.
- Process transfer and appropriation charges, balance and close accounts, and troubleshoot problems.
- Prepare and deliver bank deposits, access multiple banking systems, and initiate wire transfers.
- Provide financial policy interpretation, determine the validity of customer requests, and ensure compliance.
- Support internal audit requests, assist with grant financial administration, and complete post-award accounting.
- Set up vendors for sub-contractors and start-up research organizations, assist with modifying grant budgets, and review and forecast grant performance.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or related field.
- 1 year of financial, budgeting, and/or preparing account reconciliations or financial statements experience.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
- Familiarity with financial reporting.
