Laboratory Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Specialist to join our team in the Special Hematology department at UNC Health Care. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals with a passion for laboratory medicine and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient care.
About the RoleThe Laboratory Specialist will be responsible for performing a variety of complex laboratory tests, including Hemoglobin/Thalassemia Profile on HPLC. They will also assist with bone marrow collection and work closely with clinical teams and pathologists. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities- Investigate problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and/or workflow.
- Serve as a technical resource for new employees and train them on laboratory procedures.
- Monitor daily operations of the laboratory section or work area.
- Participate on teams or perform special projects/assignments.
- Perform quality control and equipment maintenance in the appropriate laboratories.
- Report results to healthcare providers and consult/confere with them regarding test results.
To be considered for this role, applicants must have a Bachelor's of Science degree and MLS/MT (ASCP), MT (NCA), or MT (AMT) certification. They must also have two years of experience at the medical laboratory technologist, medical laboratory technician, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist level.
Working ConditionsThe Laboratory Specialist will work a standard Monday to Friday, day shift schedule with rotating afterhours and weekend
