Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist to join our team at Christus Health. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our Operating Room suite.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in preparing and caring for pre-operative patients, maintaining aseptic techniques, and monitoring situations that could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
  • Transport patients to and from the Operating Room suite, position patients according to the type of surgery, and identify and care for biological specimens.
  • Prepare the Operating Room by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies according to the type of case, and establish and maintain the sterile field.
  • Pass instruments, sutures, and other equipment to the physician, and assist as directed.
  • Use the physician preference card as a starting point when pulling cases and setting up the OR, and ensure that preference cards are kept up to date and as complete as possible.
  • Work effectively as a member of the team caring for the patient, cooperate in team planning and execution, and maintain a safe environment by implementing technical and aseptic practices.
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise in the use and care of all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment, and adhere to Universal Barrier Precautions for both patient and own safety in all patient care situations.
  • Monitor and control the surgical environment, maintain proper traffic control, dress codes, and adherence to OR sanitation policies and procedures, and familiarize yourself with facility policy and procedure regarding decontamination, processing, and sterilization of all instruments and supplies.
  • Perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of patients served by the department, and adapt assigned patient assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each patient served.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of Surgical Technology program is required.
  • 2 or more years of experience preferred.
  • BLS required.
  • Certification of Surgical Technologist from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting within 180 days of graduation or LVN/LPN License required.
