Job Profile Summary
This role focuses on using various imaging techniques and practices to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. In addition, this role focuses on performing diagnostic radiology duties, including evaluating physical conditions related to diagnostics, operating medical imaging equipment, and working under moderate supervision.
Job Overview
Under the direction of clinical leaders, performs radiographic procedures that follow radiological standards in a safe, accurate, and timely manner, allowing radiologists and physicians to make radiological diagnoses. This position performs radiologic procedures in both in-patient and out-patient settings in accordance with physician orders.
Responsibilities
- Identifies each patient and reviews each patient's requisition for consistency of examination ordered with clinical diagnosis and demographic information.
- Records pertinent data on radiologic requisition at all times, including physician's name, technologist's name, date, and explanation for limited examination.
- Assesses patient condition, ensures patient safety through proper use of restraint/support devices, and reviews each examination for technical accuracy.
- Communicates pertinent data to persons responsible for patient care following the procedure and coordinates radiographic examination to ensure quality and continuity of patient care.
- Contributes to the efficient operation of the department, maintains confidentiality of hospital-related information, and reports safety hazards and incidents.
- Provides lowest possible radiation exposure to staff, patients, and families according to ALARA guidelines and complies with safety, infection control, and environmental control policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Graduate of approved School of Radiological Technology.
- Certification granted by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART).
- Licensed by the Massachusetts Radiation Control Board.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Two (2) years directly related experience.
Physical Requirements
- Able to transport patients from wheelchair or patient slide board to table.
- Able to move portable x-ray machine to examination site.
- Occasionally sitting, frequent standing, walking, and lifting of 30-35 lbs.
- Able to wear protective lead aprons and lead gloves during examinations.
- Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate radiology equipment.
Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of radiographic equipment, examinations, and procedures that require contrast agents.
- Knowledge of patient transfers and positioning techniques.
- Knowledge of radiographic equipment operation and radiation safety.
- Ability to organize patient care and set priorities by providing critical care first and implementing physician's orders.
- Ability to perform all necessary computer operations to ensure proper examination documentation and charges.
