Seeking a highly skilled and experienced law enforcement professional to join our team at Emporia State University as a Police Sergeant. As a member of our Police and Safety department, you will play a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our students, employees, and visitors.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in law enforcement, with a minimum of three years of experience. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with all necessary certifications, including KLETC, firearms, first aid, and CPR. A valid driver's license is also necessary for this position.

As a Police Sergeant, you will be responsible for patrolling assigned areas, responding to emergency situations, and pursuing, apprehending, and arresting violators of the law. You will also be expected to establish and maintain professional contacts with university employees, residents, and others.

Responsibilities:
  • Patrol assigned areas and respond to given situations
  • Complete written reports as required
  • Pursue, apprehend, and/or arrest violators of the law, exercising care to ensure legal and constitutional soundness
  • Respond to emergency situations
  • Establish and maintain professional contacts with university employees, residents, and others

The selected candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, as well as the ability to control emotions during stressful situations. Building positive relationships with a variety of people, particularly in difficult situations, is also essential for this role.

Qualifications:
  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and at least three years of law enforcement experience
  • Must maintain all required certifications, including KLETC, firearms, first aid, and CPR
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Specialized training may be required based on job duties and responsibilities

This position requires the use of a firearm for law enforcement duties and therefore, candidates cannot have been convicted of, and must be free of any diversions from, a felony or misdemeanor domestic violence crime as set forth in 18 U.S.C. § 922 (d) (9) and(g) (9).

Salary and Benefits:

The salary for this position is $24 - $31.31 hourly, based on qualifications and previous experience. Emporia State University offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, free dental insurance for employees, retirement through the Kansas Board of Regents, up to 31 days paid vacation and holidays, paid parental leave, tuition reduction and tuition assistance, and dependent tuition waiver.
