About the Role



The Academic Development Professional will play a pivotal role in advancing the academic success of students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Reporting to the Project Director, this position involves developing and implementing curriculum materials in various subjects, including Math, Science, English, Foreign Language, and Life Skills. The ideal candidate will be passionate about helping students achieve their full potential and possess excellent communication skills to motivate and relate to students from diverse backgrounds.



Responsibilities





  • Develop and implement curriculum materials in the appropriate subject area, incorporating traditional, audio-visual, and computer-assisted instruction methods.

  • Teach Upward Bound students, conducting ongoing assessments of their abilities and needs.

  • Evaluate student progress per semester, making adjustments to instructional methods as necessary.

  • Create a positive learning environment that enhances student learning, maintaining classroom discipline and adhering to HCC's values.

  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and progress, informing the Project Director of any potential issues that may hinder student success.

  • Serve as a role model/mentor for Upward Bound students, providing guidance on academic and career issues.



Requirements



To be successful in this role, the candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Science, Education, or a related field. One to two years of experience in teaching and/or counseling high school students is required, with three years of experience preferred. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and relate to students from diverse backgrounds.

Houston Community College offers a competitive salary, with an estimated salary range of $55,000 to $65,000 per annum, depending on experience. The college also provides a positive working environment, opportunities for professional growth and development, and a comprehensive benefits package.
