Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Patient Access Representative to join our team at Essentia Health. As a Patient Access Representative, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth registration process for our patients, providing exceptional customer service, and maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient information.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interview patients to obtain complete demographic details, financial information, and minimum health information to ensure appropriate care provision
  • Obtain copies of insurance cards and other forms of identification, and update patient information in the medical record as necessary
  • Perform point of service data collection, including identifying and collecting patient co-payments and down payments, reconciling the cash drawer, and reporting daily deposit records associated with the collection of co-payments to ensure accurate accounting of revenue
  • Maintain all assigned work queues according to supervisor's instructions and guidance
  • Interact positively and in a caring manner with patients, co-workers, and others to provide highest level of customer service
  • Answer incoming phone calls, schedule appointments, and refer to clinical team as needed
  • Sanitize registration equipment between each use and restock basic supplies
  • Perform other clerical duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous Patient Access Representative or Patient Scheduler experience
  • Completion of Healthcare Business Insight's Patient Access 2nd Level Certification Program within six months of hire date
Work Environment

This position is located at St. Mary's Hospital Superior and requires a Day/Eve/Night Rotation (United States of America) schedule. The compensation range is $24.29 per hour, and the FTE is 0.6. This position is part of the SMMC USWA (SMUMS) union.
