Job Summary

The Fire Alarm & Security Technician position at Summit Fire & Security involves installing, troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing fire alarm and security systems, as well as other fire and life safety products with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Knowledge of different manufacturers' clean agent and high-pressure suppression systems.
  • Appropriate use of required tools and test equipment, such as multi-meters, meggers, laptops, and lifts, to repair or replace fire alarm and suppression system components.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of fire alarm codes and standards.
  • Programming and software knowledge with various fire alarm systems used when removing or replacing components.
  • Troubleshooting to determine faults or faults, including ground faults, with fire alarm systems.
  • Repairing or replacing damaged fire alarm components, such as FACP, power supplies, alarm-initiating devices, etc.
  • Safely following and performing procedures to handle, remove, and replace explosive actuators, such as squibs and gas cartridge actuators.
  • Communicating with internal and external customers and offsite monitoring companies professionally.
  • Required to be punctual to required work locations and complete scheduled projects in a timely manner.
  • Using Field Service Lightning to track work orders, materials needed, time on job, etc.
  • Completing documentation on work orders.
  • Understanding and following SFS's Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous communication program, policies, and procedures.
  • Participating in weekly Toolbox talks.
  • Ensuring the company-provided vehicle is clean and well-maintained as required by company policies.
  • Alarm Technicians will be placed in on-call status as required by location to handle emergency service requests.
  • Periodically attending seminars or similar education/training sessions to stay abreast of the latest technology, codes, and standards changes.
  • Training service technician trainees on all applicable aspects of fire protection.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • NICET or state-specific certification, preferred.
  • 2 years of Fire Life Safety Industry experience, specifically in Fire Alarm, required.
  • NICET Level 1 Fire Alarm Certification, required.
  • 2 years of professional computer skills, preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record, required.
  • Must be able to comply with SFS's Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements.
