Job Title: HVAC Controls Estimator

At Open Source Controls, LLC, we are seeking a highly skilled HVAC Controls Estimator to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for determining initial job budgets and preparing bid proposals utilizing blueprints and estimating job costs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret control drawings and blueprints.
  • Develop accurate and complete job estimates plans to ensure that the full scope of work was considered.
  • Identify project labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, written specifications, and related documents.
  • Conduct site visits and attend pre-bid meetings to understand the project scope.
  • Conduct review and take-off of blueprints.
  • Budget design build projects.
  • Collaborate with the client to help them achieve their project cost budget through consideration of plan details, alternate material/finishes, and building methods.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to understand project requirements and scope.
  • Collaborate with the sales team and project managers to evaluate project opportunities and assess customer needs.
  • Perform take-offs from project drawings and specifications to quantify materials, equipment, labor, and subcontractor requirements.
  • Analyze project specifications and conduct research to determine appropriate control system components and equipment.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for control system installations, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Develop accurate and comprehensive project proposals, including scope of work, equipment lists, engineering hours, and cost breakdowns.
  • Seek competitive pricing from suppliers and subcontractors and evaluate quotes to determine the most cost-effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to ensure accurate and up-to-date pricing information for control system components and equipment.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate bid proposals to clients, ensuring compliance with project specifications and contract requirements.
  • Review and evaluate project changes, including scope changes and change orders, and update cost estimates accordingly.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to provide technical support and expertise during the project estimation phase.
  • Coordinate with project teams to ensure smooth handover of estimated projects, providing necessary documentation and clarifications.
  • Maintain accurate and organized project documentation, including drawings, specifications, proposals, change orders, and as-built records.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to controls and cost estimation methods.

Requirements:

  • Must have 5+ years' experience estimating large low-voltage systems, including structured cabling, fiber optics, access control, and video surveillance.
  • Solid knowledge of building codes, electrical codes, communication standards, and installation best practices.
  • Ability to read blueprints, notes, and specifications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of automation systems, controls, and related components and equipment PLC Controls and instrumentation experience.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics, construction blueprints, control drawings, and specifications.
  • Demonstrated experience in cost estimation, including labor, material, and equipment costs for control system installations.
  • Experience using estimation software and tools to develop accurate project proposals and cost estimates.
  • A proactive and self-motivated mindset, with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to travel to various job sites as required.
