Job Description:Behavioral Health Support Services

The Mental Health Resource Specialist provides critical support to address the mental health needs of young adults in our community. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing street-based crisis intervention as needed and connecting individuals with mental health resources.
  • Offering culturally tailored referrals to mental health services in various settings, including offices, communities, or at a location of the individual's preference.
  • Meeting with young people accessing Drop-In Services to provide resources aligned with their needs.
  • Maintaining connection with young people interested in mental health resources during Drop-In Services.
  • Engaging with potential participants using a strength-based model of engagement.
  • Building positive rapport with young people to offer effective referrals for services.
  • Providing case consultation and case coordination as needed to employees at the Willows Youth Services Center.
  • Participating in community outreach with the Street Outreach team to inform young people about available mental health support services.
  • Making referral connections for youth in North and East King County.

Community Outreach

This role involves developing partnerships with local service providers to ensure access to mental health resources for participants. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Responding to crisis calls during daytime hours through the Street Outreach phone line.
  • Offering training and presentations in the community regarding services offered by Friends of Youth.

Documentation and Evaluation

Key tasks in this area include:

  • Completing meaningful engagements, referral documents, and other necessary reporting tools for each participant.
  • Ensuring timely completion and adherence to program procedures, such as Incident Reports and connection to referrals.
  • Completing required reporting for Health Care for the Homeless.
  • Compiling monthly reports in compliance with agency and contract requirements.
  • Participating in weekly supervision, monthly case consultation meetings, and monthly team meetings.

Requirementsa. Education and Experience

We are seeking an individual with:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a human-service field (preferred).
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience, including supporting youth, young adults, and families experiencing homelessness.
  • Experience providing case management services with an emphasis on trauma-informed, positive youth development, housing first, and harm reduction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MS365 Power Platform.

b. Additional Requirements

Essential qualifications include:

  • Satisfactory passing of a criminal history check.
  • Satisfactory passing of a tuberculosis (TB) test.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid Washington State driver's license (or ability to obtain one by date of employment).
  • A safe driving record, as defined by Friends of Youth, for employees operating their own vehicles on Friends of Youth business.
  • Auto liability insurance that complies with Friends of Youth requirements for employees operating their own vehicle(s) on Friends of Youth business.
  • Successful completion of health certification requirements within 30 days of employment: CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination (no exemptions).
