Crude Risk Management Leader

A key leadership role has emerged at Optimus - People. Solutions. Delivered., seeking a seasoned risk management expert to spearhead crude trading operations. As the lead for 3 junior risk analysts, you will be responsible for guiding and mentoring the team while overseeing day-to-day risk activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of 3 junior risk analysts; provide training and career development opportunities.
  • Oversee the calculation and reporting of daily P&L, exposure, VAR, and drawdown for crude and refined oil trading portfolios.
  • Reconcile broker/clearer invoices and deal confirmations, ensuring data integrity in risk models and systems.
  • Collaborate with traders and management to provide risk analysis, including hedging strategies, physical pricing, and market interpretation.
  • Develop and implement risk management models and processes for crude and refined products.
  • Analyze market positions, using advanced modeling techniques to calculate Value-at-Risk (VAR) and other risk metrics.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of the risk management function, driving growth and goals for the company.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a middle office or risk management role in the energy trading sector, with a focus on crude and refined oil markets.
  • Proven experience in risk management, including calculating P&L, exposure, and VAR for large trading portfolios.
  • Expertise in physical pricing strategies, hedging mechanisms, and refinery economics (e.g., crack spreads, time spreads).
  • Strong knowledge of US domestic oil markets, with a focus on crude and refined products.
  • Experience in speculative trading, physical delivery, and futures contracts.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, VBA, and SQL for data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience with ETRM systems, preferably in energy trading environments.
Compensation:

The estimated annual salary for this position is $120,000-$150,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
