International Student Advisor

The International Student Advisor plays a vital role in supporting the success of our international student community. This position provides expert immigration services and advice to individuals holding F and J visas, ensuring compliance with governmental regulations and promoting student success.
This role involves advising on the benefits and responsibilities associated with visa status, addressing the needs of international students and scholars, and maximizing their university experience. The advisor will work closely with the Executive Director of International Services to ensure alignment with the department's mission and relevant professional standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver immigration services to the international student and scholar community, advising on visa status and federal regulations.
- Respond to the needs of international students and scholars to contribute to their progression and timely completion of educational goals.
- Act as the Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), processing and endorsing immigration documents for F&J visa classifications.
- Monitor and maintain accurate record-keeping and reporting responsibilities associated with the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
- Maintain accurate knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and directives related to non-immigrant students and scholar populations served.
Requirements:
- Thorough knowledge of federal regulations regarding international students and scholars.
- Experience as an international student adviser and Designated School Official and/or Alternate Responsible Officer in an international student/scholar office in college or university preferred.
- Ability to learn and analyze complex immigration issues and bring them to a satisfactory resolution.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sensitivity to other cultures.
- High level of organization, accuracy, and attention to detail.
