About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Design Engineer, Structures Aerospace & Defense to support the next generation of industry-leading aerospace frame architecture development. This role will play a critical part in transforming vehicle structural systems away from traditional manufacturing by utilizing new materials and technologies.

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and managing CAD models for individual NodesTM as well as full structure assemblies, managing BOM creation and population of the Nodes and hardware, working closely with inter-group engineers to understand manufacturing/design capabilities and limitations, collaborating successfully in a team environment, presenting design summaries and comprehensive reports efficiently at customer meetings and to other engineers, and creating, refining, and executing new technical solutions for aerospace structures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and manage CAD models for individual NodesTM as well as full structure assemblies
  • Manage BOM creation and population of the Nodes and hardware
  • Work closely with inter-group engineers to understand manufacturing/design capabilities and limitations
  • Collaborate successfully in a team environment to ensure cross-functional requirements are met while achieving safety targets
  • Present design summaries and comprehensive reports efficiently at customer meetings and to other engineers
Requirements
  • Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 8+ years of experience in aerospace structure design
  • 8+ years of CAD experience creating detailed and intricate models
  • 8+ years of PLM experience
  • Solid understanding of linear/nonlinear behaviors of advanced materials (composites, adhesives, metals) to achieve lightweight structural solutions
  • Experience with aerospace load applications and MIL-STDs
  • Outstanding comprehension of solid mechanics
  • Solid interpersonal skills, motivated self-starter who can manage personal workload and execution to tight schedule
  • Experience interfacing with engineering, testing, and manufacturing groups to understand system designs and the associated constraints
  • Experience supporting analysis and completing documentations for airworthiness certifications
  • Experience supporting or engaging directly with DoD airworthiness stakeholders such as Air Force Test Center (AFTC) or FAA
  • Experience supporting structural design and analysis throughout the design, build, and test phases of a development cycle
  • Experience with fast iteration prototyping programs
  • Experience managing system configurations and managing changes to size, weight, and cost constraints

  • Knowledge of overall vehicle systems/sub-systems and requirements
Compensation Package
