Corporate Counsel

Overview

Suburban Propane is seeking a highly skilled Corporate Counsel to provide legal assistance and guidance to our operating departments. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in helping us achieve our goals while minimizing associated legal risks.

Responsibilities

As a Corporate Counsel, you will serve as a primary legal resource to our business units, interacting directly with internal clients and external customers. You will perform legal tasks in support of our designated objectives, providing legal guidance and support on a wide range of areas, including litigation, corporate governance, field operations, real estate, HR, labor and employment matters.

Key responsibilities include preparing, drafting, or reviewing contracts; assisting with or responding to governmental investigations; assisting with HR and employment matters; supporting our Field Operations in addressing legal issues; and supporting, leading and recommending legal policies and practices to ensure legal and/or regulatory compliance.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need a JD degree from an ABA accredited law school and a minimum of 4 years relevant legal experience. You will also need excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly and succinctly explain legal concepts to non-lawyers. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and internet research is also required.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will have the ability to practice law as a corporate generalist, addressing issues within assigned specific substantive legal areas, including consumer protection, contracts, employment and labor, environmental, safety, intellectual property, litigation, mergers & acquisitions, commercial real estate, securities, and technology and software licensing. You will also need to be a motivated self-starter with creative thinking and problem-solving skills, able to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
