Industrial Controls Specialist

Our organization is seeking a highly skilled Industrial Controls Specialist to join our team. The selected candidate will be responsible for designing, installing, and maintaining control systems, as well as ensuring the operational interface, OITs, PLCs, HMI's, and field instrumentation sensing systems are functioning properly.
This position requires a strong understanding of industrial control systems, including SCADA, ICS networks, and protocols. The individual will work closely with our IT and engineering teams to provide automation and controls programming, as well as interface with production operators, maintenance, management, and engineering groups to achieve the best possible solutions to process control problems.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computer science, engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 5-7 years of IT experience, including 4 years as an industrial programmer. CompTIA Security+ certification is required, and advanced certifications related to programming, industrial controls, and software development are preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and recommend process control enhancements, prepare documentation, and training programs for TRA as it relates to SCADA and ICS network.
- Assess software and hardware needs, recommend equipment purchases, and coordinate and support all software-related functions, including vendor interface.
- Liaise with other Authority departments, Northern Region staff, and engineers, coordinating meetings, and ensuring that plant staff input is timely and technically based.
- Work with IT, Engineering, and operations personnel to provide automation and controls programming, interface, and serve as support lead with production operators, maintenance, management, and engineering groups.
- Participate in the development and review of plans and specifications for SCADA control for process and telemetry systems, assist with designs and evaluations of processes and equipment, and participate in the development and implementation of special assignments relating to operation and maintenance activities of the automated process control systems.
- Coordinate design, implementation, control strategy modification, PID tuning, and training on the use of the process control system, including the development and review of control narratives, control loop diagrams, HMI database, and HMI displays.
- Troubleshoot SCADA system problems, troubleshoot IP network issues, radio/cellular telecommunication issues, and determine materials and supplies required for repair.
- Maintain expert knowledge of company applications and automated systems, as well as the integrity of the data in the systems.
- Supervise staff in group and manage all project activities within the department, providing technical direction and guidance.
- BS or BA in Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems.
- Minimum 5-7 years of IT experience, including 4 years as an industrial programmer.
- CompTIA Security+ certification required.
- Advanced certifications related to programming, industrial controls, and software development preferred.
The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, good interpersonal communication and organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize, organize, analyze, and solve problems. They must also be able to manage multiple projects, work harmoniously with supervisors, peers, subordinates, contract personnel, and vendors, and follow general supervisory instructions, as well as policies and precedents open to judgment in some areas and more specific guidelines, policies, and procedures in others.
