Medical Support Specialist for Plasma Center Operations

We are seeking a Medical Support Specialist to join our team at our plasma center in Ames, IA. As a Medical Support Specialist, you will be responsible for determining donor eligibility, managing donor adverse events, reviewing laboratory test results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. You will work under the guidance of the Center Manager for operational guidance and under the management of the Center Physician for medical issues.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in clinical or hospital settings, with experience in determining donor eligibility and managing donor adverse events. You should be familiar with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment. Additionally, you should have excellent communication skills, be able to work in a fast-paced environment, and be committed to providing exceptional customer service.

You will work closely with our center staff to ensure that all procedures are followed and that our donors receive the best possible care. About the Role
As a Medical Support Specialist, your primary responsibilities will include:
* Determining donor eligibility by conducting medical history interviews, physical examinations, and reviewing laboratory test results
* Managing donor adverse events, which includes evaluating reactions, following SOPs for medical emergencies, and referring to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs as needed
* Notifying donors of unsuitable test results and referring to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs as needed
You will also be responsible for supporting the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees, managing employee incidents, and determining whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER. Additionally, you may be authorized to serve as a Pandemic Coordinator and support investigations associated with pandemic threats within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.
Requirements
To be successful as a Medical Support Specialist at BioLife, you will need to meet the following requirements:
* A high school diploma or equivalent, including a graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements
* Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT-Paramedic
* Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification
* Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy
* Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist
* Two years in a clinical or hospital setting

Estimated Salary Range: $21.15 - $29.09 per hour, depending on qualifications and location.
