Fleet Operations Specialist Job Description

The Fleet Operations Specialist is a critical role within International Registries, Inc. responsible for ensuring the safety and compliance of vessels registered under the Marshall Islands flag. This position requires a high degree of knowledge of maritime regulations and a strong understanding of the operational capacities of ships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting flag state safety inspections and supporting marine casualty investigations;
  • Performing special inspections relative to PSC detentions of RMI flagged vessels;
  • Conducting Pre-Registration inspections on vessels prior to registration as required;
  • Conducting "vetting" and risk assessments on vessels in accordance with published "desk guides";
  • Monitoring and assisting with updating and troubleshooting of the worldwide inspections status board;
  • Preparing safety inspection reports for review and processing;
  • Delivering and retrieving RMI documents, as required;
  • Tracking and closing out deficiencies;
  • Reviewing inspection reports as assigned by the Regional Fleet Operations Manager;
  • Standing watch as a "Duty Officer";
  • Responding to telephone and email inquiries;
  • Conducting ISM, ISPS and MLC audits as directed;
  • This role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to crawl, climb, and traverse through tight spaces on ships.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of maritime experience;
  • Ex-Coast Guard positions such as Marine Inspector or Port State Inspector have transferable skills;
  • Experience in conducting inspections and audits;
  • Strong knowledge of maritime regulations and codes;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Bachelor's Degree in a maritime-related field preferred.
