Job Summary

The Licensed Vocational Nurse I is a vital member of our healthcare team, responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with provider's orders under the guidance and supervision of the nurse in charge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver quality nursing care to assigned groups of patients while minimizing the risk of infection, contamination, harm, or injury.
  • Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
  • Monitor, record, and report symptoms and changes in patients' conditions.
  • Conduct specified laboratory tests.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
  • Complete documentation to meet regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide patient education directed towards identified knowledge deficits.
  • Guide, educate, and provide leadership as a preceptor to LVNs and non-licensed clinical staff, as directed.
  • Participate in performance improvement process initiatives within JPS Health Network and assigned department.
Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Vocational Nursing.
  • Current licensure to practice vocational nursing in the State of Texas by the Board of Nurse Examiners and must maintain licensure throughout employment.
  • Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • ACLS within 3 months of hire (required in Emergency Department and Critical Care only).
  • EKG test passed within 90 days of hire date and maintained throughout employment (required in Emergency Department and Critical Care only).
  • Completion of Pediatric Life Support (PALS) within 90 days of hire and maintains credentialing throughout employment for the Emergency Department.
  • Completion of unit specific competency-based orientation program within 90 days, if applicable.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification must be obtained within 6 weeks of employment (for Inpatient Women's Services only).
  • Approved Education and Training in Non-Violent Crisis De-escalation must be obtained within 90 days of hire date and maintained throughout employment for the Emergency Department.
