We are seeking a highly skilled and accomplished Senior Physics Research Instructor to join our faculty at North Carolina Central University.

Job Description

The purpose of this tenure-track position is to develop an astronomy and astrophysics program including research and courses to provide academic support, enrichment, research and work opportunities for students. As a key member of the physics department, you will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses, mentoring students, and conducting cutting-edge research in your area of expertise.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in theoretical or experimental astrophysics, astronomy, or a related field, with a proven track record of research excellence. A strong commitment to teaching and mentoring is essential, as well as the ability to contribute to the growth and development of our diverse student body.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in astronomy and astrophysics
  • Mentor students in research projects, guiding them in the development of their skills and knowledge
  • Conduct research in areas such as stellar evolution, galaxy formation, cosmology, or other relevant topics
  • Publish research findings in top-tier journals and present at national and international conferences
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments to develop interdisciplinary programs and initiatives

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Astrophysics, Astronomy, or a related field
  • Postdoctoral experience or equivalent research experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring
  • A strong research record, with publications in top-tier journals
  • Familiarity with research funding agencies and grant writing
