Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and strategic legal professional to join our team as General Counsel. This individual will be responsible for leading our company's legal strategy, advising on corporate governance, managing compliance and regulatory matters, and providing counsel to executive leadership on legal risks and opportunities. The General Counsel will play a crucial role in protecting and advancing our business interests as we navigate the rapidly changing digital landscape.

Main Responsibilities

  • Corporate Governance and Compliance
    • Provide guidance to executive leadership and the Board on corporate governance, risk management, and compliance.
    • Evaluate and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, particularly those related to digital platforms and intellectual property.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures to mitigate legal risks and support the company's long-term strategic goals.
  • Contract Management and Negotiations
    • Oversee the drafting, reviewing, and negotiating of all company contracts, including vendor agreements, partnership contracts, and licensing deals.
    • Ensure contracts align with business objectives and adhere to legal and regulatory standards.
    • Manage and maintain the company's contract lifecycle and document management systems.
  • Intellectual Property and Brand Protection
    • Oversee the protection and enforcement of our intellectual property, including trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
    • Collaborate with product and marketing teams to ensure brand consistency and compliance with IP laws.
    • Lead efforts to prevent and manage infringement cases and brand protection challenges.
  • Employment Law and HR Support
    • Advise on employment law matters, including employee relations, HR policies, and benefits compliance.
    • Work closely with HR to ensure compliance with employment laws and support efforts to create an inclusive and equitable work environment.
    • Guide company-wide training on legal compliance, ethics, and regulatory standards.
  • Risk Management and Litigation
    • Identify, assess, and manage potential legal risks to the business.
    • Handle and coordinate any litigation matters or external legal proceedings, including managing outside counsel when necessary.
    • Lead crisis management efforts and develop policies to minimize legal exposure in high-stakes scenarios.

Requirements

  • A JD from an accredited law school and membership in good standing with the California State Bar.
  • Proven experience as a General Counsel or senior legal executive, preferably within a technology or digital media company.
  • Expertise in corporate governance, contract law, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into actionable advice.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of building trust with internal stakeholders.
  • Passion for the creator economy and a commitment to supporting creator-driven business models.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with data privacy laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Experience working within or alongside high-growth, tech-forward companies.
