Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Reporting Accountant to join our team at the Employees Retirement System. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing complex financial and accounting work in the Financial Reporting Section, including coordinating accounting and related activities, preparing financial analyses and reports, and assisting in the preparation of the ERS Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and/or prepare, process, and audit general journal entries, including the monthly state retirement contribution draw for General State pension, agency contributions ledger corrections, and fund allocation entries.
  • Monitor and reconcile agency default funds, pension and benefits appropriation budgets, and interest accounts.
  • Monitor and reconcile general ledger accounts for Retirement/Pension funds, Excess Benefits Arrangements, Service Purchases, etc.
  • Coordinate and communicate with State Agencies regarding Retirement/Pension accounting discrepancies and corrections.
  • Assist in the preparation of the agency's ACFR, including fiscal year-end tasks.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports.
  • Assist with special projects, research requests, and ad-hoc reporting needs from internal and external sources.
  • Serve as a back-up for key functions of the team.
  • Data entry and reconciliations of accounting transactions in the ERS financial systems and into the Uniformed Statewide Accounting System (USAS).
  • Assist in the compilation and preparation of information for Legislative Budget Board Reporting, GASB Reporting, and Agency Fiscal Certifications.
  • Create and update standard operating procedures for the Financial Reporting Section.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in accounting, business administration, finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, or other related experience, including experience with creating general ledger entries and generating financial reports.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience maintaining an accounting system, including chart of accounts, profiles, batch jobs, and report development.
  • Experience with GASB/FASB implementation and compliance.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Financials.
  • Accounting experience with a Texas state agency and/or experience with the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS).
