Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Perfusionist to join our team at NYU Langone Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing patient care requirements and treatments necessary for extracorporeal services during the entire perioperative period.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Assessment: Monitor physiological parameters for early identification of changes in the patient's physiologic status during procedures, recognize medical emergencies, and respond appropriately by expediting treatments.
  • Care of Patients: Prepare the extracorporeal circuit in a timely fashion, initiate and operate the heart/lung machine at the direction of the cardiac surgeon, and adjust and adapt the perfusion system to accommodate changes in surgical technique or patient parameters.
  • Infection Control: Utilize appropriate isolation principles and universal standards, adhere to departmental policy, and maintain a work environment free of any blood spills.
  • Environmental Care: Assist in the setup of supplies for each cardiac case, organize and maintain inventory, and dispose of contaminated waste in appropriate receptacles.
  • Information Management: Summarize patient physiological status in the medical record, record all information pertinent to the patient during procedure, and complete order entry as per hospital policy and procedure.
Requirements
  • A BS in basic science, nursing, biomedical, or bioclinical engineering or related field.
  • NYSOP Permit in Clinical Perfusion required.
  • Experience in the care of patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics, knowledge and operating skills of perfusion-related equipment, and evidence of strong interpersonal skills in general and crisis situations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Membership in professional organization desirable.
  • American Board of Certified Clinical Perfusionists or board certification eligible.
