As an Analytical Chemist with the Department of State Health Services, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of chemical analyses in our laboratory. Your primary responsibilities will include performing chemical analyses of drinking water, environmental, and food samples using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), Flow Injection Analyzer (FIA), and other techniques approved by EPA and Standard Methods.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform routine analyses of drinking water, environmental, and food samples using AAS, FIA, and other approved techniques.
- Read, understand, and satisfactorily follow SOPs and Quality Manual.
- Cooperate and communicate effectively with coworkers and Team Leader concerning workload and assigned testing.
- Record observations, data, calculations, and results concurrent with performance of each task.
- Perform data entry accurately.
- Analyze proficiency samples like routine samples.
- Assist Team Leader in investigating causes for analytical problems, implementing solutions, and documenting corrections.
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, environmental science, biological sciences, or physical sciences from an accredited college or university.
- Laboratory experience in performing chemical analysis.
- Experience with EPA or other analysis methodologies, or experience with laboratory quality assurance procedures.
Applicant is required to list chemistry courses on application showing the course name and number of semester hours. Providing verification of educational requirements is a condition of employment.
