Network Engineer Position Overview

Morton's client is seeking a skilled Network Engineer to oversee engineering and operational activities for campus and datacenter networks. This role involves collaborating with fellow engineers and the Infrastructure Architect on project and operational designs. The Network Engineer should be a self-starter comfortable with prioritization and effective workload management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and support datacenter and campus networks utilizing expert-level experience in routing & switching, Wi-Fi, and network packet brokers.
  • Provide day-to-day operational support for LAN and Wi-Fi infrastructure.
  • Review network designs for EVPN, VxLAN, leaf-spine architecture, and make deployment recommendations.
  • Deploy and maintain security solutions such as NDR and AGNI Security from Arista.
  • Develop and maintain network infrastructure monitoring and alerting strategies.
  • Ensure interoperability between Arista and other networking solutions (Cisco, Palo Alto).
  • Assist with configuration buildouts, including network provisioning automation using Python, Chef, or Ansible.
  • Continuously improve processes and documentation for network assets.
  • Participate in troubleshooting incidents and coordinate with vendor support as needed.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with external vendors, including Arista TAC.
  • Translate complex business requirements into leaf-spine network solutions.
  • Stay updated on technology, security, and networking trends through ongoing training.
  • Support business services by completing requests, resolving incidents within documented SLAs, and adhering to change management processes.
  • Ensure network security solutions and procedures adequately address and respond to threats.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Preferred Network Industry Certification (e.g., Arista ACE 3 or above). Expert working knowledge of CloudVision. Experience with Arista or other commercial Wi-Fi platforms. 10+ years' experience with network technologies, including design and deployment of Campus and Data Center networks. Expertise in leaf-spine architectures and advanced knowledge in various networking areas (Ethernet, VLANs, VxLAN, VPN, IP Routing, TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, IPsec, MACsec, Multicast, QoS, Wi-Fi, VoIP, 802.1X). Proficiency in at least one area of Data Center technologies (e.g., Openstack, SDN, NFV, Load Balancers, Virtualization, Linux tools). Background in Perl, Python, or scripting for network automation. Strong customer service, verbal, and written communication skills. Experience in an ITIL or similar service operational environment.
Desired Skills:
  • Experience with Palo Alto firewalls. Knowledge of Citrix NetScaler or load balancing. Familiarity with Zscaler Secure Private Access and Nutanix Flow. Understanding of Microsoft Azure networking. Experience with Network Access Control solutions. Strong knowledge of information security standards (e.g., Commonwealth of VA Information Security Standard SEC530).
