Job Description

The Role

As a key member of the ECU hardware design team at General Motors, you will play a critical role in ensuring our products meet the growing needs of our customers while maintaining robust, well-designed hardware that meets GM specifications and testing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead product development and integration activities, utilizing engineering tools and processes to successfully develop components and systems for vehicle programs.
  • Effectively achieve program milestones through thorough and effective program management.
  • Coach and lead suppliers to timely execution of program work with excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and guide a team of electrical hardware designers, providing technical direction, assigning tasks, and ensuring the team's productivity and efficiency.
  • Work closely with other teams, such as software engineers, mechanical engineers, and manufacturing teams, to ensure seamless integration of electrical hardware designs into the overall product.
  • Lead embedded designs for advanced module architectures, new IC design/development, and electrical schematic design and PCB layout.
  • Assess the feasibility of proposed electrical hardware designs, considering factors such as cost, performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Support next-generation designs in digital/analog hardware, including Gig+ ethernet, processors, and memory.
  • Perform and review electrical worst-case analysis.
  • Represent the GM HW team as a design expert in core technologies developed among the team.
  • Optimize five-point parametric tests and finalize end-of-line production tests.
  • Lead the process as a build-to-print engineer and liaison with the contract house.
  • Apply cost-effective solutions with improved performance design.
  • Lead product development as part of a multi-hub engineering organization based in Detroit and the West Coast.
  • Refine and optimize requirements with the MPG team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional experience creating digital/analog HW interfaces, including schematic creation and/or PCB layout and supportive documentation.
  • Minimum 7 years of working experience in automotive hardware electronics design.
  • Experience in design and analysis tools like Mentor Graphics, MathCad, PSpice, and Saber.
  • High-speed communication buses (Ethernet, PCIe, SerDes).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous industry experience with infotainment, telematics, or connectivity.
