We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Technician to join our team at Coastal Gulf & International, Inc. This position is a great opportunity for individuals who are passionate about working in a laboratory environment and want to contribute to the success of our organization.
Job Summary:
The Laboratory Technician will perform routine laboratory tests under close supervision to determine the chemical or physical characteristics of samples. The successful candidate will ensure that their duties are completed accurately and delivered with high quality in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform Basic Analytical Tests: The Laboratory Technician will perform basic analytical tests based on standards and procedures as assigned by the Laboratory Manager.
- Assist with Laboratory Equipment: The successful candidate will assist and perform the setting up, adjusting, and operating laboratory equipment.
- Calibrate Laboratory Instruments: The Laboratory Technician will calibrate laboratory instruments as needed to ensure that analysis is accurate according to the Quality Management systems.
- Clean and Sterilize Equipment: The successful candidate will clean and sterilize laboratory equipment.
- Prepare Chemical Solutions: The Laboratory Technician will prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
- Record Test Results: The successful candidate will record test results on standardized forms and write test reports describing procedures used.
- Enter Data into LIMS: The Laboratory Technician will understand and complete laboratory raw data sheets and make accurate entries into the LIMS database.
- Read and Comprehend Analytical Standards: The successful candidate will be able to read and comprehend all analysis as well as safety standards in English, including ASTM, UOP, IP, and other well-defined analytical standards and procedures used in the laboratory.
- Exercise Procedural, Safety, and Quality Requirements: The Laboratory Technician will exercise procedural, safety, and quality requirements specified in the Laboratory Manual & Safety Manual and company policies.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or Related Science: A Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or a related science is preferred, or equivalent work experience; coupled with a minimum of one (2) year of direct transferable experience working in a laboratory.
- Awareness of ASTM Standards: The successful candidate will be knowledgeable in ASTM standards.
- Ability to Work with Chemicals: The Laboratory Technician will be able to work with all chemical, petrochemical, and petroleum products.
- Color Differentiation: The successful candidate must be able to differentiate between colors accurately by sight.
- LIMS Experience: Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office: The successful candidate will be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Access.
- Great Work History: The Laboratory Technician will have a great work history with a track record of being a responsible individual.
- Detailed Oriented: The successful candidate will be detailed-oriented.
- Excellent Communication Skills: The Laboratory Technician will have excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency in Laboratory Equipment: The successful candidate will be proficient in the use of laboratory equipment.
Working Conditions:
The Laboratory Technician will work in a laboratory environment. The working environment and physical demands described here are representative, but not necessarily all-inclusive, of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Physical Requirements: The Laboratory Technician will be required to walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms; and to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or twist body to fit and/or reach.
- Lifting Requirements: The employee's lifting requirement and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
- Exposure to Fumes and Chemicals: The Laboratory Technician may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
