Job Summary

The Supervisory Physical Therapist is responsible for administering all aspects of the physical therapy program at the Jacksonville Outpatient Clinic within the North Florida/South Georgia (NF/SG) VA Health System. The incumbent must have mastery of the broad functional areas of physical therapy theory, practice, and specialized knowledge in multiple specific areas.

Responsibilities

  • The Supervisory Physical Therapist has full responsibility for the administration of the physical therapy program, including the supervision of employees, coordination and supervision of students and volunteers, and the development and implementation of policies and procedures to address focused clinical needs.
  • The incumbent must establish the overall mission, vision, and values of the PT Section in concert with the PM&RS and the NF/SG VAHS, review annually and revise as necessary or appropriate.
  • The Supervisory Physical Therapist must develop annual objectives that support the NF/SG VAHS strategic plan and work throughout the year to achieve the objectives.
  • The incumbent must demonstrate a great deal of autonomy in performing responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, assigning work to employees, monitoring workload and clinical volume, staffing, imposing disciplinary measures, and monitoring clinical privileges.
  • The Supervisory Physical Therapist must assess, plan, and evaluate the delivery of therapy care utilizing personal experience and current research in order to maintain an integrated and comprehensive therapy program.
  • The incumbent must plan, develop, implement, and oversee any new physical therapy ventures in collaboration with PM&RS leadership.
  • The Supervisory Physical Therapist must direct the Performance Improvement efforts for the physical therapy section, designing activities that detect and remedy deficiencies in process and outcome of physical therapy services.
  • The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge of contemporary physical therapy across multiple areas of practice, and the demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge to provide clinical guidance to staff PTs within the department.
  • The Supervisory Physical Therapist must demonstrate knowledge of human resources administration, including such functions as the ability to interview and select qualified applicants, monitor and evaluate performance, and maintain effective labor management relations within scope of responsibility.
  • The incumbent must effectively supervise, direct, and manage a diverse physical therapy staff, forge positive interpersonal relationships, and resolve conflicts.
  • The Supervisory Physical Therapist must analyze clinically appropriate data effectively to optimize quality, performance, and productivity within the section, set priorities, delegate tasks, and solve problems to meet multiple deadlines.
  • The incumbent must manage advocacy roles and planning activities within the VA and the greater rehabilitation community.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in physical therapy AND five (5) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist, OR A master's degree in physical therapy AND two (2) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist, OR A doctorate degree in physical therapy.
  • A graduate of a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredited college or university.
  • A full, current, and unrestricted state license to practice physical therapy in a state, territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of progressively complex experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level.
