Job Summary:

The Senior Claims Director will oversee the performance and results of the claims assigned to the Complex Claims Unit. This role ensures that all aspects of claims adjudication are delivered in accordance with the Claims Value Proposition. The ideal candidate will provide direction, mentoring, and support to the Complex Claims Unit Director(s).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Owns the performance and results of the claims assigned to the Complex Claims Unit.
  • Ensures that all aspects of claims adjudication are delivered in accordance with the Claims Value Proposition.
  • Provides direction, mentoring, and support to the Complex Claims Unit Director(s).
  • Demonstrates the ability to implement organizational change, manages mission-critical objectives, and effectively communicates in a manner that leads to the realization of the organization's mission, vision, values, and strategic goals.
  • Is conversant regarding team performance trends, conveys a detailed understanding of the opportunities for improvement, and maintains/executes improvement actions that lead to results within established targets.
  • Is responsible for helping the enterprise identify complex claim trends, product, and program opportunities and reporting on complex claim activity to the Executive Leadership Team and other stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required, law degree and/or other advanced degrees a plus.
  • 10+ years of claims handling experience.
  • 7+ years of experience handling large exposures and/or complex claims preferred (casualty claim operations environment determining coverage, liability, investigation, research, evaluation, negotiation, and settlement).
  • Experience in leading and managing all levels of staff relative to experience, tenure, and professional development.
  • Strong leadership skills in terms of teaching, guiding, coaching, and developing staff.
  • Sound analytical skills in terms of functional, technical, and financial information.
  • Understand and effectively analyze Munich Re coverage forms.
  • Strong understanding of reserve accuracy relative to claim exposures.
  • Excellent customer focus and ability to partner with internal and external customers, including but not limited to Legal, Client Companies, Marketing, Reinsurance, Finance, and Underwriting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to foster teamwork, including conflict resolution, personal and team accountability, openness to influence, and team commitment.
