Job Summary

Operate and maintain mechanical systems in the physical plant, ensuring the efficient generation of steam, chilled water, and emergency power. Key responsibilities include monitoring and maintaining boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, compressors, emergency generators, and other supporting equipment. Additionally, maintain and operate air handlers and refrigeration equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain mechanical systems to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Operate and maintain boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, compressors, emergency generators, and other supporting equipment.
  • Maintain and operate air handlers and refrigeration equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts as needed.
  • Identify and report any issues or malfunctions with mechanical systems.

Requirements

  • EPA Section 608 Universal Technician Certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Membership in a local union
  • Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, equipment, processes, and techniques of the trade
  • Ability to work from written and oral instructions, read diagrams and blueprints, and maintain standard records
  • Ability to climb ladders, push and pull up to 95 pounds, and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Good dexterity, balance, and coordination required to work from ladders and scaffolding
  • Ability to wear half-mask respirator to comply with OSHA requirements
